Job Description Closing Date: Open Until Filled About The DepartmentThis recruitment will establish an eligible list to fill current and future vacancies. Positions could be available at the Pre-Release Center, the Montgomery County Detention Center or Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

The Department of Correction & Rehabilitation is recruiting Correctional Dietary Officers .

Correctional Dietary Officers are responsible for providing direct supervision, guidance and training to inmate/resident workers in carrying out the day-to-day preparation and service of food in a large-scale food services operation within a secure correctional setting.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Preparing meals from standardized recipes using safe food handling practices.
• Maintaining order and security.
• Conducting inventories.
• Reporting maintenance needs and safety hazards.
• Carrying out recycling initiatives.
• Receiving and storing deliveries.
• Verifying order quantities and product in conformance with specifications.
• Calculate mathematical computations related to recipe conversions to produce acceptable quality products.
• Maintaining the Food Service Facility in a clean, safe and sanitary condition on a daily basis.

A Correctional Dietary Officer Candidate Should Be Able To

• Use institutional food service equipment for the preparation of meals.
• Apply a working knowledge of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP).
• Communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and inmates/residents.
• Respond quickly, calmly and effectively in emergency situations, and be able to de-escalate situations.

Prior to a promotional appointment within DOCR, the selected individual must answer the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA)questions and submit to a criminal history to comply with the Prevention Planning on Hiring and Promotion Decisions (115.17, 115.117, 115.217, 115.317). This is a requirement to meet Federal law and audit standards.

Individuals appointed to this position must be at least 18 years of age on the date of appointment and be either a citizen of the United States or a resident alien.

Generally, this position is covered by Employees Retirement System, Group EK. If the successful candidate is an internal employee, retirement plan coverage will be determined at the time the job offer is made.

This position may be filled at either of the following levels: Correctional Dietary Officer I, Grade 17, salary range of: $54,027 - $84,909

Correctional Dietary Officer II, Grade 18, salary range of $56,220 - $88,686

Please note that effective June 16, 2024, these salary ranges will increase to: Correctional Dietary Officer I, Grade 17, salary range of: $55,648 - $87,456

Correctional Dietary Officer II, Grade 18, salary range of $57,907 - $91,347

Minimum Qualifications Experience: Two (2) years of satisfactory experience in the food service industry (as in a commercial restaurant, correctional facility, a hospital, a long-term care facility, or in the armed forces or in another type of equivalent food service operation); this experience must include but is not limited to applying proper procedures for equipment sanitation, handling food, preparing and serving food, and meal production/service time requirements.

Education: Completion of high school, High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland, possession of a High School equivalency certificate, or a certified transcript or test scores, each as acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education in accordance with the regulations of the Maryland Correctional Training Commission [Title 12, Subtitle 10, Code of Maryland (COMAR)].

Equivalency: None.

LicenseMust successfully complete the Food Service Sanitation Management course and obtain a valid Montgomery County Certified Food Service Manager Certificate within sixty (60) days from date of hire. Certification must be maintained throughout employment in this occupational class.

Must successfully complete the Entrance Level Correctional Training Program specified by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission and possess a certificate of completion within twelve (12) months of hire. Successful completion of in-service training, as specified, is also required.

Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence may be required.
